G I S Spatial Data Investments Protection Using Metadata

Overview

The geographic information industry is growing by leaps and bounds; Billions of dollars per year are being spent in spatial data investment, many of the organizations spending vast resources to create geospatial data are failing to protect their investment. Metadata is a powerful tool for safeguarding an organization's investment in spatial data.

Objectives

This course is designed to provide background information and explanations in order to assist in preparing metadata to accompany GIS data. Shows how metadata supports efficient management and use of spatial data, introduce practical techniques for creating and maintaining metadata in accordance with the current international standards for geospatial data. Hands-On examples show how to plan, edit, and create metadata different sections in different standards formats (FGDC-ISO), and how to automate metadata workflows using templates.

Audience

This course is ideally suited for GIS project managers, GIS analysts, GIS administrators, and generally all who work with GIS will benefit from this course.
