The SoundPLAN suite of programs is a "box of building blocks" with the data
entry facility, called the Geo-Database, as the required cornerstone around
which modules can be assembled for various computation, modeling and
graphics tasks. SoundPLAN modules can be grouped so SoundPLAN becomes a
special noise modeling software for the acoustician, a tool kit for the air
pollution specialist, or a general purpose application for the environmental
assessment personnel.
Noise Modeling
SoundPLAN offers models for the entry, calculation and assessment of
aircraft, road, rail and industry noise. Noise calculations inside a
building can deliver the feedstock for the environmental propagation model.
The aircraft noise model assesses the impact from aircraft noise in the
vicinity of airports and can be used as a stand alone module or to produce a
comprehensive noise situation with all other noise types.
Air
Pollution Dispersion
The plume dispersion of air pollutants from roads and industrial sources can
be computed for the near field and for bigger areas. Because the computing
power and memory requirements dictate that the macroscopic and the
microscopic views cannot be taken with the same model, SoundPLAN offers an
array of components.
Environmental Assessment Studies
Often noise and air pollution assessments are part of a complete
environmental assessment study where soil types and the biosphere are
evaluated for their own value and behaviors under the impact of noise and
air pollution. Because of this, the environmental modeling can be packaged
as a stand alone tool kit or in combination with other modeling components.
