G I S Web - Based Mapping Applications Development

Overview

For most world governments and organizations the Internet has enormous potential for publishing and distributing geographic information. GIS web Applications is widely used by organizations to share geospatial information, such as land use data and real-time traffic information. Other uses include storing location maps and online services, such as business relocation and homebuyer services. The Internet offering a platform for GIS data sharing and discovery.

Objectives

This course is offering a platform for Internet-map sharing. Discovers how quickly and easily designs and delivers GIS maps on the internet, introduces the development of web-based GIS solutions, theories and principles behind Internet mapping to perform spatial analysis, , and on web design for Internet mapping systems.  Present live step-by-step demonstrations to create your own GIS web site using ArcIMS 9 – MS Front Page and HTML.

Audience

This course is designed for GIS beginner and experience users, who is interested in learning Internet mapping technology in order to publish and administer interactive GIS maps on the Intranet- Internet.

Perquisites

This is an intermediate course. Participants should be familiar with GIS concepts. Prerequisite skills may be obtained in Introduction to Geographic Information Systems course. Web knowledge is preferred.

  Prepare your own data which need to publish it on the internet.

  Define the architectural of ArcIMS; Web Server, Application Server and Map Server.

  Discover the difference between different kinds of Internet Map services.

  Define difference between Java and html map viewers.

  Creating your Internet Map Service to the planed map.

  Publish your map on the internet; step-by-step to develop map web page.

  Customizing the map web page component and frames; easily and efficiency.
